The Black Rider

It has recently come to my attention that Tom Waits' album, The Black Rider, is not only a wonderful album, but also the soundtrack for an operetta he wrote with William S. Burroughs.

I have decided that I want to own a little found-space theatre and produce shows in it on a regular basis. I haven't quite decided if I want to do it as a side project, or as a full-blown career choice, although I am leaning more towards the side project idea. Teach in the winter and fall and produce a show in the summer, or something. Sounds ideal to me.

Glad I have a good wife who supports me in these goals.

Unimpressed with Blogger

Despite my best efforts the previous entry still looks like snake vomit.

Russia is still nice. It rained all over me this morning as i walked by myself to our weekly language and cooking class. The wife is ill today and we decided R and R to be more beneficial than sugarred toast and the pronunciation of numbers.

I've stumbled upon the blogs of friends and loved ones this afternoon, and i spent more time than is prudent reading them, sharing adventures, and reflecting on days passed, never to be repeated, but always to be expounded upon and relived.

We all have our own adventures. I read of Andy's travels across the USofA and find myself a bit green with jealous rage, until i remember that i myself am in Moscow, Russia of all places. Opportunities for adventure are all around me. I've had many, and these last few weeks in the heart of Eastern Europe demand that i find more, and that i chronicle them in some form or another.

I've been listening to Howlin' Wolf all morning, too. It's been appropriate, to say the least.

Thanks Ben.

Home

So, Urban Outfitters may be pretentious as all heck and expensive like a trip to the moon, but it sure is kind of them to offer free music for my wife to download. Sometimes they have some
particularly good ones. This is one of those gems that we were so lucky to find on the album from a few weeks ago..

I particularly enjoy it for the twangy folky sound as well as for the idea of home being where ever i am with "you."

I certainly feel that way here in Russia. People ask me if i am homesick, and while i miss my brother and my
mommy, and many of my friends, i gotta say that this time i brought my home with me, and therefore am not homesick in the least. I love being with my little wifey. She makes me happy.

End post.

once upon a time...

I had a blog that i used to write in on a regular basis. It started out pretty good, but as time went on my posts became more and more forced and therefor fewer and farther between. It was difficult for me to write things in it for some reason. I have started this blog per an agreement i made with my wife. Now i find myself sitting here trying to think of what i should write about in this new blog.

For one, i just read a goosebumps book. It is called Go Eat Worms. I read it once before in the fourth grade. I wrote a book report on it and part of the assignment was to make a hat that the main character would probably wear. I remember those things, but i did not remember the book very well. In fact this was the likely the first i had read a goosebumps book since elementary school. As far as creepy goes, it was about a 2 or a 3 on my scale of goosebumps creepiness (properly scaled to fit all goosebumps books. yes there are 10's i'm sure of it). It was written to creep out a specific audience. One that gets squeamish thinking about worms and other creepy crawlies. Personally i have never been one to be strongly affected by these things and so the book was an easy read. However i did enjoy it and the nostalgia of the thing boosted my enjoyment noticably.

On a more personal note: I am in Russia. I have been here for a couple of months now and i love it. Unlike the rest of the Americans here i am in no great hurry to get back to the states. I enjoy it here so much. I am not homesick, i think because my home came with me. I am so happy to share this experience with my little wifey. There are, however a few things that could make it better:
1. If I was in Ukraine, preferably somewhere to the west.
2. If things here were cheaper (which would be remedied by point #1).
3. If my brother were here. I miss that guy and wish so much that i could share this part of my life with him.

That all being said i must now clean the kitchen, because Jules made for me a baked potato and since she was so gracious to do so, it is my obligation to clean up after her.

Stay classy.
